MARAWI TO LAUNCH ECO SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT

On its 34th Anniversary Day

The Islamic City of Marawi will mark its 34th founding anniversary on April 15 without the usual colorful fanfare and showboating cultural presentations but with meaningful program of launching the Ecological Solid Waste Management of the city.


Although City Mayor Sultan Fahad Salic in a letter of invitation mentioned of a “grand Kalilang on April 15 to remember our history.” he said “this year’s celebrations would foster Islam and environment as an obligation of every Muslim…”
Previous celebrations of the city anniversary were done at least one-long week with lavish programs of games and competitions and started by street parades of government offices and non-government organizations, different private and public schools and others in colorful Maranao cultural attire and costumes.

The 34th anniversary is said to highlight on ecological concern and Mayor Salic is expected to sign an order to create the Ecological Solid Waste System Council or Committee that will take care in the proper recycling of solid wastes for more benefit than create its usual unhealthy effect.

Prominent VIPs and guests from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) are expected to grace the occasion to witness how the city will give great concern on the environment and contribute on the climate change and global warming affecting the globe, making many people suffer due to unusual typhoons, draught and calamities due.
