ILIGAN CITY, September 1 – A traffic accident involving three vehicles ensued Monday morning in one of the city downtown busiest crossing lanes but no one was reported hurt.

The accident involved a company mini-truck, a passenger jeepney and a KIA HUV.

A passenger of the jeepney who preferred unidentified said he saw the company mini-truck colored maroon hurriedly crossed the crossing of General Aguinaldo and Lluch streets.

“But as the truck driver was looking at the left,” said the passenger, “he (the driver) did not notice the HUV colored red passing through Aguinaldo and thus bumped the left side of the HUV passenger’s seat.”

The passenger said the HUV lost control and hit the left side of the jeepney plying Palao-Bacayo routes.

The crossing lanes have no traffic light and accidents may be prone. Traffic enforcers or aides are assigned to man the rotonda.regularly.

But sources said traffic enforcers were lax or not active in manning the crossing.

Earlier, Ranao Star reported in a banner story that untrained traffic aides were manning Iligan key streets.

The report quoted City Traffic Management Officer Lamberto A. Jungao as admitting in one of the Sangguniang Panlungsod sessions that some posts usually manned by regular traffic personnel were assigned to new recruit-casuals who have not yet been trained on the job.

Jungao revealed that at the instance of what he believes is the Acting City Administrator Atty. Dexter Sumaoy, there was a reassignment of traffic aides in different post throughout the City.

In view of the situation, the SP passed a resolution requesting the city mayor to have new traffic aides undergo the one-month training prescribed by the Traffic Code of Iligan before being deployed to strategic posts in the city streets. MNY
