Iligan solon hosts BBL consultation

By FRANK E. DOSDOS, JR.

ILIGAN CITY – A consultation meeting hosted by the Lone Congressional District of Iligan regarding the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law was held last October 16 at Celadone Inn, this City.

The Resource Persons of the said consultation meeting were GPH Panel Chairperson Miriam Coronel Ferrer, GPH Member Senen Bacani, GPH Panel Legal Counsel Atty, Mohammad Al-Amin Julkipli, Datu Antonio Kinoc of the MILF Panel, Bangsamoro Transition Commissioner Said Shiek, Bangsamoro Transition Commissioner Talib Abdulhamid Benito and Bangsamoro Transition Commissioner Timuay Melanio Ulama.

The resource persons explained the salient provisions of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.

During the Open Forum most of the questions centered on territory especially that which provides that 10% of the registered voters of a barangay adjacent to the core territory of the Bangsamoro may petition for inclusion.

It appears that many are in favor of the Bangsamoro Basic Law but against the inclusion of some barangays in Iligan to the Bangsamoro territory.

The panelists told the attendees that everything is now in Congress and it is up for the Congressmen to act on the proposed law.

Congressman Belomonte said that the purpose of the consultations is to inform everybody about the proposed law.

He also said that Congress must also know the reactions and positions of the people regarding the matter.

He said further that more consultations will be conducted in the near future and probably members of the Congressional Committee concerned will be conducting public hearings in the affected and adjoining areas.

Finally, he said that the law must be passed to give peace a chance.

He concluded that since the law will be passed by Congress, it can also be amended or repealed in the future if found ineffective in serving its purpose.
