EDITORIAL:History Making

Early this week, ever serious-looking Senator Grace Poe, revealed the findings of her Committee’s Investigation Report on the Mamasapano Incident.
It was clearly established that suspended Director General Alan Purisima and booted out Special Action Force Commander Getulio Napeñas mishandled Oplan Exodus and may be liable for administrative sanctions. This was not surprising because it was plain that someone blundered in that fateful incident.

It was not also unexpected that President Benigno Simeon Aquino III was found to have broken the chain of command and may have committed an impeachable offense because he cannot be charged otherwise due to immunity from suit while in office. This was also clear right from the start that he was the “someone” who blundered.

Of course with his Congressmen ruling the House of Representatives he can never be impeached and even if he can be, the lives of those 44 SAF Commandos that were lost during that battle can never be revived. So, what can be done?

There are demands in some places that the President should resign. However, this cannot happen because in this country only the naïve resigns. Even in very disgraceful situations, officials employed by Juan dela Cruz never resign.

“Apologize,” others suggest. But how can a born-señorito who has always been looking at other people as subjects – not masters, ever say, “I am sorry,”? Even if he had said, “Kayo ang Boss Ko,” he was just following a script. He will never apologize. Masters believe they are infallible.

The best thing to do now is to move on as if nothing happened until the next debacle occurs. And by then, move on also for June 30, 2016 will come whether one likes it or not.

It was not the fault of Benigno Simeon Aquino III that he became President of the Philippines. Everybody knew he had a lousy record as a Congressman and Senator, yet the voters elected him.

Everybody knew that he keeps on grinning even if there’s nothing funny. Yet many adored him.

So, let everyone face it for it is all but part of history making. RANAO STAR
