Salesmanship – Not Swindling

SPECTRUM
Frank E. Dosdos, Jr.

When one convinces a native of Luzon to work in Lanao del Sur and get him to come down here, it is superior Salesmanship.

oOo

But when he does not keep up with his commitments, it is swindling and is embarrassing to us.

oOo

The latter may have been what happened to construction workers hired in Baliwag, Bulacan, last July, and brought to Molundo to work on the house of the recruiter.

oOo

They were brought to Maguing instead and made to work on the mansion of the recruiter’s parents and promised a “big, big bonus.”

oOo

The recruiter invited the Foreman’s wife for a one-week vacation in Molundo but their stay lengthened until nobody knows when, if they were not able to device an escape.

oOo

The promised “big, big bonus” did not materialize. Instead the Foreman and four of his men were detained like hostages under guard by four armed men.

oOo

In the end they were rescued by the police.

oOo

Incidents like this one are some of the deterents to economic growth and development in the province which is listed by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) as one of the poorest provinces in the country.

oOo

What would be the effect on the people in the rest of the country when the story of those workers and the Foreman’s family is told?

oOo

This is a question that all of us in Lanao del Sur must answer to ourselves.

oOo

We are a proud people proud of our religion. Shall we allow this to happen again?
