Freestyle cycling club brings hope to Afghan youths

AFGHANISTAN, December 8, 2016 — A freestyle cycling club is raising hope among Afghan youths who are affected by the country’s prolonged problems.

The 'Drop and Ride' club that was established recently is increasingly appealing to young Afghans who find it a chance to escape from problems such as insecurity and economic hardships.

The members of the club suit up in protective gear and join in fields or on the outskirts of Kabul to learn and practice freestyle cycling tricks.

The hills offer the boys in the club a more rural terrain, but the 50-member club also has 15 female members who use sport facilities inside the city.

The female bikers hope that their trailblazing activity can raise awareness about women’s sports in a country where girls were once excluded from public life and are not still fully accepted in society.

The girls gather 3 times a week on a football pitch in the capital and use metal tables and boxes to perform stunts that they have learned from social media. The club charges the members about 6 dollars a month.

The founders hope international aid groups will help fund them further expand the club. PressTV
